Cholsey and Wallingford Bee, Environment and Family Group
The idea for this group originated through a text message related to the need for non-working or home based parents, to have a focus, a medium to learn and discover something new. In this case, it is about:
learning to work with bees,
have a hive in the garden
supporting each other with a common theme or ideal
Developing an environment where our children learn to respect and work with nature
developing the idea of being responsible for our environment and even though we are caring for young children we can still contribute enormously to the Community, through:
Planting trees and other flora to enhance the habitat for pollinators
Raise and be aware of issues surrounding the loss of pollinators
Provide homes for swarms
We aim to progress this Support group so that it can continue throughout the year, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter by:
building and painting hives with children
learning, growing, sharing and contributing all our skills to make the local area a vibrant ecologically friendly and aware environment for our families
Developing relationships with farms and other sites our families use regularly, such as National Trust venues, and use these to site apiaries, welcome the public, and provide a safe a secure environment for bee colonies that may otherwise have found homes in unwanted places, such as roofs, cavity walls, sheds, chimneys and other often unwelcome places.
